You have two business commodities that can be wasted or enhanced by Internet usage: your employees’ time and your network resources. Managing your network usage begins with Internet filtering, but an effective solution requires Internet monitor software — determining how your employees are using the Internet and shaping your filtering and use policies to accommodate your best business practices.
The first step for an Internet monitor system is to setup an effective site filter. Most inappropriate content – pornography, gambling, shopping, or extreme sites – is easy to identify when you see it. But controlling access to those sites is more difficult, especially maintaining a current and accurate list of problem sites. There are other dangers with web surfing for sites that aren’t objectionable but are unrelated to work – the question for your business is how do you control that through the use of a Internet monitor solution.
iPrism uses the most comprehensive Internet monitor database in the industry, iGuard, to compare against every packet of information. All restricted content, inbound and outbound, is blocked. The iGuard database offers:

- Internet monitor categories for easy management. iGuard identifies all pages by categories, like Shopping and Web Search. Profiles and policies can be written identifying categories. Even as new pages come online, filtering stays effective because the filter is configured around categories rather than variable URLs or hostnames. It also allows access to different categories for different groups, so you can get a handle on web surfing.
- URL-based Internet monitor filtering. Filtering is done by the page rather than the site, so an individual page can be blocked while still allowing access to the site.
- Context-relevant keyword filtering. Every single page in the iGuard database is human-reviewed, so context is considered. There are fewer false positives, so your employees can access the sites they need; there are also fewer false negatives because of text-light (but offensive) sites.
- Constant Internet monitor updates. The database is updated at least daily; some categories related to security are updated as frequently as every ten minutes.

iPrism goes beyond filtering to offer a true Internet monitor solution. iPrism’s Real-Time Internet Monitor tool records all Internet traffic in real-time and sends instant reports for important events, such as a user trying to hit a restricted site. The Internet monitor feature is flexible enough to let you monitor all traffic for the entire network or to focus the Internet monitor on the area you want to monitor:
- By IP address. This monitors traffic only for the IP addresses or IP range you specify.
- By category. This monitors traffic for sites only within certain categories.
- By user. This monitors traffic only from a specified user.
- By media. This monitors all media on a site, including images, protocols used, style sheets, and other included files.
